Firstly I should start by saying that one day in Washington DC is not enough.  As we were in New York, I thought a quick trip to Washington DC would at least provide us with  ” We’ve been to Washington DC ” .

So we left early from New York Penn Station on the Amtrak train to Washington DC. It took us about 3-4 hours to get there so was mid-morning by the time we arrived. We had tickets to a Hop on Hop off bus that would take us around the sights. We had to be very planned as we needed to be  on the train back to New York by early evening.

So our first stop was the  Lincoln Memorial. As I stood on the steps, I felt a need to yell ” Jenny, Jenny, is that you Jenny” from the movie Forrest Gump. It was quite a surreal feeling to be standing there .

The area around  was quite beautiful with gardens and green spaces.

We then got off at Arlington National Cemetery  which was a very peaceful place to walk around . The views back over Washington DC  were amazing . We saw the Whitehouse from the top of the Hop on Hop off bus  but that was about it,  as it takes time to see the sights in Washington DC .

A place that I would like to return to , to be able to really see and experience the place properly.
