A weekend in Lake Tekapo is a great way to unwind. We picked up a rental car in Christchurch and drove the 3 hours to Lake Tekapo. The night sky was so dark, very different from being in the city. I had always wanted to visit the beautiful stone church and was not disappointed. The church was open to visit but no photography inside. The window at the front of the church was like looking at a beautiful framed picture. I wish I could show you how fantastic it was!

We had plans of viewing the night sky from the Mt John observatory but with rain and wind, the road was closed.   Maybe next time.

So we decided to drive to Twizel to see more of the  beautiful countryside .

A visit to the Hot Springs is a must especially when the weather isn’t the best.

That evening we walked through the township to find a nice place to eat dinner, Tin Plate Bar and Restaurant was our choice and the food was really good.

A quick walk back to the stone church to see with the evening light and back to our apartment at Peppers Bluewater Resort for a good nights sleep.

The next morning we had breakfast at The Greedy Cow café, then a drive back to Christchurch. There are a few nice places along the way if you have time to stop and explore.  Geraldine is a pretty town.

Bac home to the reality of a big city, but nice to have a weekend in a special place.
