Hawkes Bay New Zealand

A weekend in Hawkes Bay

Recently a friend had asked where to stay in Hawkes Bay, NZ. I should have already posted this but mentioned that Craggy Range has a range of accommodation. We were lucky to have stayed here a few times in these vineyard cottages. Arriving at the entrance, we always know that we are in for a lovely time and nice food !

We were a bit late booking for dinner at the restaurant as they were fully booked but they cooked our orders and we picked up from the restaurant ( about 100 m away from our cottage) and we ate in our cottage with the fire going . The food was exceptional.

So what else is there to do in Hawkes Bay? Well, there is a road that takes you to the top of Te Mata Peak where you can see for miles. If you are adventurous, then there is a walkway.

Try Black Barn for lunch which is on your way into Havelock North or wonder around the lovely shops in Havelock North . Some times of the year they also have a country market which we have visited other times we have been in the area.

Drive out to Clifton through Te Awanga and enjoy Elephant Hill vineyards or Clearview Estate for a more rustic experience. There are gannet tours from Clifton that will take you to Cape Kidnappers.

I have also heard that a drive to Ocean beach is also very nice, however I haven’t done this as yet. Maybe next time !

Mission Estate Winery is also another great place to have lunch in Napier which is about a 25 minute drive away.

There is so much more to see and do in the Hawkes Bay. It really is a great part of New Zealand.
